In Town Program
About In Town Program
Our In Town program is for girls and boys grades 3rd through 8th grade interested in a recreational league. All registered players are placed on a team and players receive equal playing time in games. We generally look to have mixed grade teams that practice once a week and play games once a week typically on Saturday. The mixed grade teams are 3rd / 4th grade, 5th / 6th grade, and 7th / 8th grade.
The number of teams vary year to year based on the number of players registered. In the past we have partnered with other local communities (Lincoln and Maynard) to form a Tri-Town league as well as partnered with Sudbury Youth Basketball to ensure players interested in a recreational league have options to participate.
Registration and Fees
With all members required to purchase our new uniforms last season, our In-Town program fee has been reduced to $275 for the 2024-2025 season. However, all players grades 4-8, will register and pay an initial fee of $375. Once players are placed in either our Travel or In-Town program, a $100 refund will be given to all In-Town players/members. Fee covers expenses for gym time, 1 practice per week, 1 game per week from November through March, referee fees, team equipment, and a practice jersey and shooting shirt that players will keep. The fee DOES NOT cover uniforms this season. Families will instead be given options to purchase a full or partial uniform (shorts or jersey) during the registration process. All fees will be refunded if a player chooses not to participate in our WYB programs.
Team Formation Schedule
WYBA will conduct 2 MANDATORY, 1-hour evaluation sessions for all registered players, grades 4-8. The two selected weekends are below. Each grade, separated by gender, will be assigned a 1-hr slot on either Saturday or Sunday for each weekend. Players that do not choose to attend the evaluations will automatically be placed in our In-Town program.

The In Town basketball season typically starts toward the end of November and games are played on Saturdays starting the first week of December. Many games are played in Wayland with some away games taking place in Lincoln, Maynard, or other local communities. Practices are once a week and happen on weeknights. Practice nights vary by team and are determined based on gym and coach availability. The season ends by the first week of March and there are no games on weekends of Winter and February break.

Team Formation Guidelines
- WYBA conducts evaluations with the goal of placing players at a level that will best support their development. All players registered for the Travel and In Town programs will be evaluated and given a recommendation for league placement. All players interested in our In-Town program will be placed on a team.
- Evaluations are conducted to form even teams so that the league has fair competition.
- The number of In Town teams formed is dependent on the number of registrations.
- Teams are formed by combining grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8.
- We will partner with other local towns where needed to reach participation levels that allow us to have a great development experience for our players.
If you have three or more children registering this season, please contact us to receive a discount code for $25 off your 3rd registration and beyond.
Financial aid is available for those families who qualify. For more information, please contact dir_basketball_ops@waylandbasketball.org.
