In Town Program

About In Town Program

Our In Town program is for girls and boys grades 3rd through 8th grade interested in a recreational league.  All registered players are placed on a team and players receive equal playing time in games.  We generally look to have mixed grade teams that practice once a week and play games once a week typically on Saturday.  The mixed grade teams are 3rd / 4th grade, 5th / 6th grade, and 7th / 8th grade.

The programs offered vary year to year based on the number of players registered.  In the past we have partnered with other local communities to form a Tri-Town league as well as partnered with Sudbury Youth Basketball to ensure players interested in a recreational league have options to participate.

Registration and Fees

Registration is still open for our In Town program.  The In Town program fee will be $350 for the 2023-2024 season. A $200 deposit will be collected at registration and remaining balance when a player is assigned to a team.  Fees cover expenses for gym time for 1 practice per week and 1 game per week from November through March, referee fees, team equipment, and a uniform, practice jersey and shooting shirt.

Team Formation Schedule

Thank you to our parent volunteers, evaluators and everyone who participated in evaluations over the last few weeks.  The evaluations for Winter 2023-2024 are now complete.  We will communicate all team placements by the end of the day Sunday, October 22nd.

Practice and Game Schedule

The In Town basketball season typically starts toward the end of November and games are played on Saturdays starting the first week of December.  Many games are played in Wayland with some away games taking place in Lincoln, Maynard, or other local communities. Practices are once a week and happen on weeknights.  Practice nights vary by team and are determined based on gym and coach availability.  The season ends by the first week of March and there are no games on weekends of Winter and February break.

Team Formation Guidelines

  1. WYBA conducts evaluations with the goal of placing players at a level that will best support their development. All players registered for the Travel and In Town programs will be evaluated and given a recommendation for league placement.  All players interested in our In Town program will be placed on a team.
  2. Evaluations are conducted to form even teams so that the league has fair competition.
  3. The number of In Town teams formed is dependent on the number of registrations.
  4. Teams are formed by combining grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8.
  5. We will partner with other local towns where needed to reach participation levels that allow us to have a great development experience for our players.

If you have three or more children registering this season, please contact us to receive a discount code for $25 off your 3rd registration and beyond.

Financial aid is available for those families who qualify.  For more information, please contact president@waylandbasketball.org
