WYBA Community Service Program
The WYBA Community Service Program was launched in 2024. This program is split into two categories:
- Scholarships & Grants: Summer Basketball Camp Scholarships, College Campus Visits, Academic Trips/Services, SAT/ACT Prep, tutoring, and more! All current and former members (attending WHS) are eligible to apply.
- Wayland Community Sports Projects: In continuing our efforts to do our part in improving the overall athletic experience for ALL of our Wayland youth athletes, WYBA has created a fund to be used specifically for future projects. Potential projects may include but are not limited to: new uniforms for our middle school and high school basketball teams, new baskets in our school gyms (WMS is done!!), new flooring in WMS, and new scoreboards in the WHS fieldhouse.
To inquire or apply for a WYBA Community Scholarship or Grant, please contact Donny at donnyjg@gmail.com or at dir_basketball_ops@waylandbasketball.org.
Completed Initiatives
Wayland Middle School Hoop Replacement (8/24)
All fourteen WMS hoops have been replaced, including new rims, nets, and 6 official size glass backboards that are height adjustable for our mini hoopers!
The Wayland Middle School is home to 642 children. Every day, they utilize the gym for a multitude of activities, including on the weekends for town sports and tournaments. The gym was in desperate need of new basketball hoops and backboards. The current basketball hoops were outdated, with non-regulation size backboards, and overall in very poor condition.
A group of volunteers—in partnership with The Game is Fair LLC, Extra Space Storage of Sudbury, and Lynch Landscape & Tree Service—approached the school district about donating a gift of basketball hoops and backboards, and full installation. The school district was in favor of us moving forward to raise funds. Community fundraising took place in 2023.
WYBA thanks everyone who contributed to this fundraiser. Your continued commitment to our community and student-athletes is inspiring and an example of what we can accomplish when working together. WYB also thanks our Wayland Boosters, WPS administration, WPS facilities and custodial team, school committee and Middle School PTO for their contributions and support.
It is important that our children have the proper equipment to excel in youth sports while developing self confidence and accountability. Our community continues to come together to build a better future for Wayland, and this is another great example.
